New Concept Self Development Center, Inc. (“New Concept”) has been providing youth and family social services to underserved low-income African American families since 1975. The majority of these families live in the neighborhoods near the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center (“MLK Center”) on 15th and Vliet Street in Milwaukee, WI. Median income of this highly vulnerable population ranges from less than $25,000.

In a 2012 Strengths and Challenges Assessment, Program Participants, Funders, and Community Partners consistently commented on the high quality and relevance of New Concept’s services. The Assessment participants also expressed concern that many of the individuals/families served by New Concept would fall through the cracks and remain underserved without New Concept’s intervention.
